The Gay Travel Market is a $211 Billion Dollar Industry - Fort Lauderdale Embraces The Gay Traveler

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau has been proactively targeting and welcoming the LGBTQ market since 1996, when it became the first Convention & Visitors Bureau with a gay-centric vacation planner, and dedicated website on a CVB homepage. Since then, the destination has continued to break down barriers and facilitate essential visibility for the LGBTQ community at large. The destination now welcomes 1.5 million LGBT travelers annually, spending $1.5 billion. This past fall Greater Fort Lauderdale was selected as the site of the Southern Comfort Transgender Conference, the largest Trans conference in North America, which had taken place since its founding more than two decades ago in Atlanta.

“Every year, Community Marketing, Inc. undertakes a gay and lesbian travel research project to get a "pulse" on the community's travel patterns and the most popular destinations and services. This past year, the study found Fort Lauderdale to be the most popular gay destination in Florida, based on the number of gays and lesbians planning vacations there. Among the 1,500 gay and lesbian travel survey participants, 27% indicated plans to vacation in Fort Lauderdale in the coming year. This was ahead of Key West and Miami."
